HS Hoop Report 2-9: Titan Girls Fall, Titan Boys Cruise, Gaels Swept On Road

Monday Night served as a make up date for games involving both South Central Calhoun and St. Edmond. The Titans traveled to Pocahontas Area and St. Edmond was on the road at Iowa Falls-Alden. On 105-9 “The Beach” South Central Calhoun got a road split. Titan Girls fell to Pocahontas Area 59-53. SCC got out to a 21-12 lead after 1. Pocahontas Area had a big 2nd quarter outscoring them 22-9 to take a 4 point lead at half. Pocahontas would lead by 5 after the 3rd and go on to win it by 6. Akaysa Duitscher had a game 28 for Pocahontas Area, on 6 made 3’s. Riley Batta had a team high 20 for South Central Calhoun.

In the Boys game, South Central Calhoun would cruise 90-72. They led 25-18 after one and outscored Pocahontas Area 21-13 in the 2nd, to lead by 15 at the half. Three Titan players had 20 plus points, Josh Dietrich with a game high 28, Cole Corey and Brennan Holder with 22 each. Trey Oehlertz had a team high 25 for Pocahontas Area. South Central Calhoun is back in action Tuesday at East Sac County, those games will air on 105-9 “The Beach” and here on our website starting at 6 PM.

St. Edmond was swept Monday in games heard on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website. St. Edmond Girls fell 52-38. An early scoring drought did St. Edmond in, as they didn’t score for the first 12 minutes of the game. They closed the 1st half on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 8 at the break. Gaels cut the lead down to 4 in the 3rd, but an Iowa falls -Alden scoring run would stop the Gaels come back efforts. Kierstin Clark had 13 to lead St. Edmond, Leah Neverman added 12.

The St. Edmond Boys fell after a big Iowa Falls Alden 1st half run. The game was tied at 6 early. Iowa Falls-Alden would close the 1st half on a 27-11 scoring run to lead 33-17 at the half. Hayden Mayer led St. Edmond with a team high 15. Gaels are back in action Tuesday night hosting Algona. It will be Senior Night for St. Edmond, KC Meiners will have the call of the action starting at 6:15 PM on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website.

Fort Dodge had their games against Marshalltown canceled due to covid-19 issues in both the Marshalltown Girls and Boys programs. Fort Dodge is at home in their final regular season home game on Tuesday. The Dodgers will welcome in Des Moines East. The Dodger Girls are rolling after two blowout wins last week. They were able to get “the presidential sweep” last week cruising past Lincoln and Hoover. They will look to make it three in a row on Tuesday Night.

Dodger Boys are coming off a home loss to Hoover on Saturday 61-46. That game was tied after the 3rd quarter and was closer than the final score indicates. As the Dodgers had to foul late to stop the clock and try to get the ball back. They will look to break their losing skid against a 1 win Des Moines East team on Tuesday. Dodger Coach Tom Daniel says for his guys it’s about setting the tone defensively.
