Fort Dodge finished their season on Friday with a road playoff loss to Ankeny 66-46. The Dodger players and coaches honored assistant coach Willie Williams, with a patch and pins that read “WW”. Williams missed the game due to being hospitalized in Des Moines after having emergency surgery last Wednesday. A slow start really doomed the Dodgers as they trailed 14-4 after the 1st. Ankeny standout guard Braxton Bayless would pour in 19 1st half points and Ankeny took a 13 point lead into the break. The Hawks would keep pace in the 2nd half as well answering every Fort Dodge run in the 2nd half and outscoring the Dodgers 35-28 after the break. Bayless would finish with a game 26 and Jaxon Smith would add 16 for Ankeny. Dayson Clayton had 9 for Fort Dodge, Senior Ty Kershaw had a team high 17 in his last game in a Fort Dodge uniform, and classmate Brycen Bell had 9 on 3 made 3’s in his final Dodger appearance.
Over on 105-9 “The Beach” Saturday Night South Central Calhoun fell to West Sioux in the 2A Substate finals. SCC couldn’t get in an offensive rhythm early managing just 14 1st half points and trailed by 14 at the half. The Titans came out of the locker room hot and used 12-4 run to cut the lead to 4 and trailed by just 6 after 3. However, West Sioux would close the door in the 4th outscoring SCC 17-8 in the final frame to win 63-48. For SCC Senior Landon Schliesman led the way with 17 and Zane Neubaum had 12 in their finale for South Central Calhoun. Iowa State Football commit Hunter Dekkers led West Sioux with a game high 30 and Newell-Fonda transfer Bryce Koppock added 11. The Titans finish their season at 19-5 with a District title and won the Twin Lakes Conference title.
