HS Hoop Report: Titans Girls & Boys Get Wins, Gaels Boys Fall In Tight Game

Monday night was one with plenty of action on the hardwood on the Alpha Media Fort Dodge stations. On 105-9 “The Beach” South Central Calhoun’s Girls & Boys got wins and on “Snowy” 99.7 St. Edmond boys fell in a hard fought 4 quarter game.

South Central Calhoun’s girls moved to 2-0 on the season after a 62-48 win over Audubon. Titan Girls had their hands full in the 1st half and led just 32-29 at half. They would outscore Audubon 30-19 after the break. Riley Batta led SC Calhoun with 17 and Senior Brielle Korleski added 14. The Titan Boys got a win in their season opener over Audubon 60-27. SC Calhoun built a 35-15 lead at the half. They outscored Audubon 21-0 in the 3rd quarter to break the the game open. Cole Corey led the way with 17 for South Central Calhoun, Brennan Holder with a double-double 10 points and 10 boards. South Central Calhoun is back in action Tuesday night at South Hamilton. Monday marked the season opener for the St. Edmond Boys. The Gaels fell to last year’s State Runner Ups Bishop Garrigan 70-65 in a game heard on “Snowy” 99.7. The Gaels trailed 38-30 at the half but would outscore Garrigan 22-14 to tie the game at 52 after the 3rd. St. Edmond got a scoring surge in the 3rd from Quinten McCarville who had 13 of his team high 23 in the 3rd. Drew Schaeffer would add 15 and Anthony Lacina 13. In the end though, it was to much of Garrigan’s returning all state selection Angelo Winkel who had a game high 28 points and 17 boards. His teammate Kyle Schaaf had 27. The pair combined for 16 of their team’s 18 points in the 4th. St. Edmond is back in action, Friday on the road at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
