HS Hoops Report From 12-11: Titans Get Home Sweep. Gaels Earn Road Split, Dodgers Swept In Home Opener & Area Scores

Friday night was action packed in gyms around North Central Iowa. For area teams it was a might of mixed results. South Central Calhoun continues their momentum after their girls and boys swept GTRA in Rockwell City with relative ease. St. Edmond Girls continue the building process as they showed improvement but fell on the road. St. Edmond Boys bounced back thanks to a huge 2nd half effort. Fort Dodge had a tough go in their home opener vs Ankeny Centennial.

South Central Calhoun’s girls continued their momentum with a 70-22 home win vs GTRA on 105-9 “The Beach”. Titans dominated the 2nd half to the tune of 40-8. Riley batta led the way with 16. Titan Girls remain undefeated and ranked in the top 5.

The Titan boys used a 17-4 2nd quarter to build a 39-16 halftime lead. They never looked back as they cruised to a 70-38 win over GTRA. Titans held GTRA without a field goal for over 6 minutes in the 2nd quarter. Brennan Holder led SC Calhoun with 20, Josh Dietrich added 16. Titan boys have won 3 in a row since falling at South Hamilton on Dec. 1st.

On 99.7 FM, St. Edmond Girls fell 63-48 at Hampton-Dumont-Cal but showed improvement. Gaels hung tough in the 1st half trailing by 6 at half. Hampton-Dumont-Cal would use a 34-25 2nd half to win it 63-48. Leah Neverman had a season high 15 and Kacey Kruthoff added 10 for St. Edmond.

St. Edmond boys would get a bounce back win after falling at Southeast Valley Tuesday. Gaels are 2-0 this season when coming off a loss. Gaels led 32-27 at the half and would come out and control the 2nd half 35-16 including a 19-6 fourth quarter. St. Edmond would win it going away 67-43. Quinten Mccarville led St. Edmond with 19, Hayden Mayer and Noah Simpson both had 10 to give the Gaels three players in double figures.

In games heard on “92 Rock” , the Fort Dodge girls lost in their home opener to Ankeny Centennial 69-23. Jags opened the game on a 15-0 run. Dodgers turned it over 29 times on the night. Cheyenne Miller-Hameed led the Dodgers with 6. Maggie Phipps had a game high 18 for Ankeny Centennial. The Fort Dodge Boys started solid trailing by just one after the 1st quarter. Ankney Centennial would own the 2nd and 3rd quarters, outscoring Fort Dodge 26-12 in the 2nd and 35-11 in the 3rd. Ankeny Centennial had 3 players in double figures led by a game high 20 from Colin Mcaleer. Avery Martin led Fort Dodge with 13, 8 of those coming from the foul line. Dodgers host Ottumwa Saturday, girls tip off at 3:30 both games will air on 92.1 and here on our website.
