Humboldt Coach Derrick Elman On Win Over Webster City

In what was one of the most highly anticipated high school football match ups around North Central Iowa in week one, Humboldt made a statement. The Wildcats went on the road and won a clash of ranked teams as they handled Webster City 35-7. Humboldt Coach Derrick Elman says the win shows that the program is moving in the right direction.

Humboldt racked up over 400 yards of total offense and five passing TD’s. Will Orness had three TD catches and Jake Heier had two in his 1st action back from injury. QB Caden “Mad Dog” Matson was 15 of 16 passing for 233 yards.

Senior Tanner Mckimmey had a big game on defense, 9 tackles and a forced fumble. Elman says the season opener was a landmark win for the program.

Humboldt opened the season ranked #8 in Class 3A. After beating #4 Webster City they moved up a spot to #7 in this week’s 3A poll.
