Humboldt Coach Derrick Elman Talks Playoff Loss & “Renaissance Season”

Friday Night, Humboldt Football fell in an emotional, back and forth 4 quarter battle at Spencer 42-35. The Wildcats were down 2 scores in the 4th quarter and rallied to take a 1 point lead with 3 minutes left. Spencer would put together a TD drive and get the 2 point conversion to go up 7 with 1 minute left. Humboldt would get the ball back but with less than a minute didn’t have the time to put together a drive and ultimately fell 42-35. It was the end of a “renaissance” this year for Humboldt Football its best since 2014. Even after a heartbreaking loss like night Friday Night on Saturday Morning Coach Derrick Elman had a smile on his face knowing this season was special. It is Elman’s positive energy that sets the tone for that program and has laid the foundation for the new culture surrounding Humboldt Football. It has earned Coach Elman “The Pied Piper Of Positivity” nickname and helped to create belief among the players and assistant coaches. Elman joined Rob Jones for the Hy-Vee Fort Dodge Coaches Corner Saturday on 99.7 FM to discuss this turnaround season and the heartbreak of the playoff loss.
