Humboldt Football Coach Derrick Elman Previews Upcoming Season

Humboldt Football made headway last year, as they earned their 1st winning season under Coach Derrick Elman in his 3rd year at the helm. Elman is a player’s coach, a guy known for his positive energy, his ability to get the players to believe and buy in.  Humboldt returns one of the top QB’s in North Central Iowa and maybe one of the best in all of Iowa in Caden Matson. “Mad Dog” had a tremendously productive campaign in 2020. Not only is he prolific on offense , he is a difference maker on defense and helps in the return game. The Wildcats graduated Gabe Gidel who was their leading receiver and a standout on both sides of the ball. They do bring back WR Will Orness who has a tremendous fall camp and is expected to be their “go to guy” in the passing game. Senior Lineman Ben Kuehnast is a man among boys at the high school level at 6ft 7 270 pounds. He holds college offers from Northern Illinois and several FCS level programs. Coach Elman joined Rob Jones this past Saturday, he talked about all of those guys, the veteran leadership his team has and their big time match up in week 1 with traditional rival Webster City, a team who’s only loss in 2020 was in the 3A State Quarterfinals.
