Hy-Vee Fort Dodge Coaches Corner Show Returns To “Sunny” 99.7 June 13th

The “Hy-Vee Fort Dodge Coaches Corner” will return to the air on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website on Saturday June 13th at 9 AM. The show will be hosted by Rob Jones as it has been since its inception in August 2019.  The relaunch of the show will air live from Hy-Vee Fort Dodge every Saturday at 9 AM from June 13th through July. It will feature baseball and softball programs from around the listening area. Rob Jones said “I am excited about relaunching the coaches show. I can’t thank Hy-Vee of Fort Dodge enough, Tim and his staff there have been incredible to work with. They have shown tremendous hospitality toward the coaches and I since day one. I look forward to having baseball and softball coaches from all over our listening area on the show. I think this show is unique in this area and it has proven to be something that listeners have enjoyed, the listener response has been tremendous. The coaches in this area in various sports since last August have embraced this show as a platform to highlight the kids that play for them and their programs as a whole. Without the support and cooperation of the coaches, Hy-Vee and the listeners this show isn’t possible.”

The June 13th episode is expected to have coaches from all over the listening area to preview the upcoming season. Jones said ” I have been in contact with area coaches in softball and baseball about the show. The initial response has been very welcoming, a lot of coaches in those sports in this area haven’t had this type of platform before. Fort Dodge Hy-Vee really has been and is the place to be on Saturday mornings. When the show was going on weekly from August until March, Saturday mornings were one of the highlights of my week and I’m excited that will continue this summer. That Hy-Vee breakfast hits the spot every time and I enjoy that immensely after the show is over.”

“Coaches Corner” will serve as a chance for sports fans to hear about softball & baseball programs from various communities this summer. While their is a break between the conclusion of baseball/softball and the opening of football season, the summer session of the show will serve as a solid lead in to the fall for the football version of the show. Jones said ” We started talking about the idea of this show last summer when I arrived here. Darren Helton our Operations manger brought up the idea to me. I had done similar shows like this before in Oklahoma, Texas and South Carolina and I always loved doing them so I was onboard immediately. When our sales, management staff and I met to discuss launching this show in Summer 2019, I said immediately let’s talk to Hy-Vee Fort Dodge first and see if they want to sponsor and host the show. Kim Wetzel in our sales staff was key in making that happen, we then went and met with Tim Flaherty Store Director there and he was incredibly welcoming and receptive to the idea. We launched in August of 2019 for football season, next thing you know their was interest in continuing to do the show weekly through basketball and wrestling season. So we kept the show going weekly until March. Hy-Vee prior to march expressed interest in going to a monthly format for the show during March, April and May since their is less going on with local sports, but they still wanted to keep the show going and highlight spring sports in the area. We planned to do that but with the pandemic we had to cancel those plans”.

Jones went on to say “What started as an idea , then became a reality for football season and then it grew from that expanding through basketball/wrestling and now baseball/softball. I want the coaches to know that this is their show, their opportunity to highlight the great young people in their programs. I also want the listeners to know how thankful I am for the support they have shown this show. In the fall and winter everywhere I went people were giving me positive feedback about Coaches Corner. I can’t thank them enough for how receptive they have been to the show and to me as a part of it. I feel like I can relate to the listeners even though I am not from here, I am a hard working common man who loves sports and have spent my life around them. I think they get that and they know that I am willing to work hard and go the extra mile to present a product that meets my own high standards and theirs”.

Any area High School softball and baseball coaches who have not been contacted about participating on the show are encouraged to contact Rob via email at [email protected] to set up appearances on the show. All high school softball and baseball coaches in the listening area are welcome and encouraged to be a part of the show.
