Iowa Central Baseball Falls Just Short Of Regional Title

Iowa Central Baseball fell just short of taking the Regional Tournament in Cedar Rapids this past weekend. The Tritons advanced to Sunday’s championship round.

Iowa Central got to Sunday after a 4-3 win on Friday vs Northeast. The Tritons won that one behind strong pitching performances from Easton Dermody and Matt Wilkinson. Dermody went 5 innings allowing two runs for the win. Wilkinson got the save after working 4 innings allowing one run on one hit.

On Saturday, Iowa Central dropped Kirkwood 9-1. Ryan Wickman, Devin hurdle and Ben Gallher all drove in two runs each. Devon Schewe got the win on the hill, throwing 7 innings of one hit ball.

The Tritons then faced Kirkwood again on Sunday, after Kirkwood won an elimination game Saturday. The Tritons had two chances at claiming the title.

They fell short 8-3 in the first game, forcing a one game finale for the Regional Title. The final game was high drama in the late innings. Iowa Central led 6-0 after 6 innings. Kirkwood scored twice in the 7th. Iowa Central took a four run lead into the 9th.

Kirkwood rallied to get four in the 9th and froce extra innings. They got three in their half of the 10th to go up 9-6. Iowa Central couldn’t score in their half of the 10th. Tritons fell despite outhitting them 14-5 in the game, Iowa Central left 12 men on base.

Iowa Central concludes their season at 35-23.
