Iowa Hoops Routs Western Illinois Thursday Night

In a game hear on “Iowa’s Favorite Country” K97, the Iowa Hawkeyes Men’s Basketball team thumped Western Illinois 99-58.  Luka Garza scored 35 points and had 10 rebounds as third ranked Iowa rolled to a 99-58 win over Western Illinois. Playing in his first game since the death of his father, Jack Nunge tied a career high with 18 points. Here’s Coach Fran McCaffery on the play of Jack Nunge.

 

Hawks had two other layers in double figures, Joe Wieskamp with 11 and Pat McCaffery with 10. The Hawkeyes got off a strong start Thursday night outscoring Western Illinois 48-26 in the 1st half. Iowa held them to 19% shooting from 3 and 30% shooting overall. The ball movement offensively for Iowa was sharp as they had 25 assists on 33 made field goals.

The schedule really ratchets up next week  for the Hawkeyes next week as they host North Carolina.
