ISP Reminds Drivers When You See A Bus, Be Prepared to Stop or Get a Hefty Ticket

It’s National School Bus Safety Week. the perfect time to remind drivers and riders alike about some very important safety rules.

District 7 Iowa State Patrol Trooper Paul Gardner says situations like multiple vehicles passing a bus while the stop arm is out is alarming.

He says when you see a school bus always be prepared to stop.

Trooper Gardner says if a person chooses to go around a school bus when it is stopped, the violators are almost always caught and can expect a hefty fine

Minimum fine for first offense $345 and Trooper Gardner says that can go up to $675 and a person could lose their license.

He says in addition to reminding the public to be careful around bus stops, bus safety week includes emergency drills with students to ensure they are prepared in case of an emergency situation.
