The verdict has come back in the Zackery Bassett murder trial. The jury in Hamilton County found him guilty of the 2018 murder of his former girlfriend Andrea Sokolowski. Bassett was found guilty of second degree murder after just a few hours of jury deliberation. The sentence for second degree murder in Iowa is up to 50 years, but is not a mandatory life sentence. The trial was heavily delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic but once it began was carried out in less than two weeks. Bassett is due back in court for sentencing in April.
