A group of local citizens made a proposal at the Webster County Board Of Supervisors meeting Tuesday morning. The basis of the proposal is to help expand the effectiveness of Webster County’s animal control and to request allocations of funding. The allocated funds would would off set costs in helping create an after hours treatment fund for domestic animals to receive treatment for life threatening health issues that arise outside of normal business hours. The group which was named in the proposal as “After Hours” is also requesting the county allocate funds to add at least one more animal control specialist. The group feels this proposition would provide faster treament and could save the lives of domestic pets in emergency situations. The proposition comes on the heels of 2 of the members of the group Jeremy Leo and Stuart Balm voicing their issues with the current animal control system at last week’s Fort Dodge City Council meeting. As 2 weeks ago Balm found a stray cat outside of Wal-Mart that was bleeding heavily, the cat later would die from the its injuries. The response time for animal control to pick up the cat at Leo’s home was over 4 hours after the initial call. The proposal is currently under further consideration by the Webster County Board Of Supervisors.
