The murder trial of Zackery Bassett in Webster City, enters its final day Tuesday prior to jury deliberation. On Monday, much of the testimony centered around cell phone data and text messages between the defendant and victim Andrea Sokolowski. The Fort Dodge Messenger reports that those messages displayed a desire from Sokolowski to leave Barrett, and that she made several overtures towards leaving him the night of her death.
The other major part of Monday’s testimony came down to how Sokolowski died. The Messenger reports that the prosecution maintains Bassett killed Sokolowski by strangulation. The defense maintains the death was accidental brought on by positioning during the act of intimacy. Both the prosecution and defense are expected to deliver their closing arguments Tuesday.
