Dejear is a Mississippi native who moved to Des Moines to attend Drake University. Dejear joins State Representative Ras Smith of Waterloo, as candidates on the Democratic side.

Republican Governor Kim Reynolds hasn’t officially announced her plans yet, but is expected to seek re-election.
