The 2020 Iowa Girls State Tournament has now concluded and it went out with a bang. The final game of the tournament was the 1A State Title game between Bishop Garrigan and Newell-Fonda. Bishop Garrigan led 33-30 at the half, then outscored Newell-Fonda 21-10 in the 3rd to take a 14 point lead into the 4th. Newell-Fonda came storming back in the 4th outscoring Bishop Garrigan 25-9 in the final frame. The game was tied at 63 when Newell-Fonda Senior Megan Morenz hit a layup with 4 seconds left that propelled Newell-Fonda to a 65-63 win. Bishop Garrigan was held without a field goal in the final 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Bishop Garrigan Freshman Audi Crooks with another “double-double” a game high 34 points and 17 boards. Newell-Fonda was led by Macy Sievers with 25 and Megan Morenz added 14 including the game winner. Newell-Fonda extended their winning streak to 54 games and has now won back to back state titles.
