Newell Fonda Set For 3rd Round Playoff Clash At Audubon Friday Night

Friday Night Newell-Fonda travels to to take on unbeaten Audubon in a 3rd round showdown in the 8 player class. Newell-Fonda comes in 8-1 on the season was ranked 7th in the final regular season poll. Their lone loss was by 2 points to undefeated Remsen- St. Mary’s which was ranked #2 in the final regular season poll. Newell-Fonda got to the 3rd round after a dominant defensive showing last week in a 20-0 win over Kingsley-Pierson in which they allowed just two first downs all night. Here’s Newell-Fonda Coach Brian Wilken on last week’s defensive performance.

The competition ramps up this week with an unbeaten Audubon team who was ranked 3rd in the final week of the regular season. Audubon has not only won every game but has won every game by over 30 points. However, Coach Wilken says the mindset for his program is they can play with anybody.

Newell-Fonda is a run first offense with over 2,000 total rushing yards and they feature 5 players with over 30 carries on the season.

Mustangs dual threat QB Gabe Sievers is their leading rusher with 750 yards on the ground and 13 rushing TD’s. He also has 11 TD passes on the season but Coach Wilken says it’s the other stat (just 1 interception on the season) that maybe the biggest key.

The winner of Newell-Fonda and Audubon will battle the winner of Harris-Lake Park and Remsen- St. Mary’s next week in the State Quarterfinals.
