Northwestern College Falls In NAIA National Title Game

Northwestern College (Iowa) fell 45-13 to Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) in Monday night’s NAIA National Title Game. Northwestern played without star QB Tyson Kooima due to injury. Northwestern Head Coach Matt Mccarty said of Kooima “He may be the best player to ever put on the Red Raider uniform”.

Lindsey Wilson put together a 13 play, 75 yard TD drive on their possession to go up 7-0. They added a FG and another TD drive to go up 17-0. Northwestern got on the board just before halftime after a 7 minute drive. They found the end zone when back up QB Blake Fryar found Konner Mcquillan for a TD pass to make it 17-7 at the half.

Lindsey Wilson would put the game away in the 3rd, as they score twice in the 1st 7 minutes of the second half to lead 31-7. Northwestern answered on a Fryar’s 2nd TD pass to cut the lead to 31-13. That would be as close as they would get in the 2nd half. Wilson tacked on two more TD’s in the 4th to cruise to a 45-13 win.

With the loss, Northwestern finishes at 11-2 and as National Runner Up. It was their first trip to the National Title game in over 35 years.
