One Day at a Time: Gateway to Discovery Making a Difference in the Lives of Fort Dodge Women

(Brooke Bickford – Alpha Media) When in recovery, whether it be from drug addiction or alcoholism, a person needs all of the help they can get. 

Gateway to Discovery is a source of strength for women in our community who are making changes in their lives.

In addition to the studio located on 5th Avenue South in Fort Dodge, the non-profit organization has a house for women to work through their recovery efforts.

“It’s a two year program,” Board member Carlie Messerly said. “They get to live there and work on work skills, recovery skills, they just take in certain sober activities through these two years and kinda learn how to live on their own again.”

Since Gateway to Discovery relies solely on donations and fundraising efforts, to continue its mission, Messerly says they can get creative with fundraising. 

Through Friday, they are selling and even delivering Gateway Grub for $10 a bag with all of the money going back to the studio and house.
