Playoff Report: South Central Calhoun Rolls, St. Edmond Drops Heart-breaker, Scores From The Area
The playoffs around the area got started Friday Night and was a mixed bag of results. Their were some games that played out as expected and some that provided drama. The South Central Calhoun are a traditional power program and they found themselves in familiar territory, at home in the 1st round. The Titans had no trouble as they rolled over Sioux Central 46-7. SC Calhoun gained 387 total yards of offense in the game. Blake Mclaister had a rushing TD and a receiving TD in the game, Brennan Holder had the same. QB Cole Corey had three total TD’s, one on the ground and two through the air. It was the 4th consecutive year South Central Calhoun has won their 1st round playoff game. South Central Calhoun hosts Dike-New Hartford on Friday in the 2nd round.
St. Edmond dropped a heart-breaker 41-38 at Dodger Stadium. Gaels trailed 7-0 early but would get a Drew Schaeffer TD pass to Parker Oswald to tie it at 7. Madrid would get back to back kick return TD’s by RB Matt Fuller , St. Edmond would score in that stretch as well by Madrid would lead 21-13. Gaels got another TD hook up Schaeffer to Oswald this time from 52 yards out that tied it at 21. Madrid QB Brady Leonard would hit on a 45 yard TD Pass to Cayden Fuson and they would lead 28-21. Gaels put together a scoring drive late in 1st half and the game was tied 28-28 at the half. Schaeffer would hit on his 3rd TD pass finding Anthony Lacina for a 73 yard scoring strike, they would get a 27 yard FG from Thornton Alljets to lead 38-28 after the 3rd. Madrid came roaring back getting two TD runs from QB Brady Leonard in the 4th. One was a 31 yard TD run to cut into the lead and the other was an 11 yard scamper for the go ahead TD with under a minute left. The Gaels had one last chance put couldn’t put anything together offensively. Parker Oswald had 6 catches, 2 TD and 152 receiving yards, he set the school record for single season receiving yards in the game. St. Edmond finishes with 5 wins on the season their best win mark since 2015.
Elsewhere around the area
Humbodt was winner in their 1st home playoff game since 2014. They downed Bishop Heelan 40-17.
Belmond-Klemme 42-12 over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. They’ll travel to take on Southeast Valley in the 2nd round Friday.
Manson NW Webster fell 54-8 to defending State Champs West Hancock.
East Sac County edged Missouri Valley 21-16. Raiders built a 21-0 lead in lst half and held on from there. Raiders take on #1 OABCIG in the 2nd round this Friday.
Emmetsburg no trouble with Eagle Grove 49-6.
Carroll-Kuemper with an upset win at Pocahontas Area 16-8.
Greene County rolls 49-0 over Red Oak
Newell-Fonda cruised past West Bend-Mallard 54-6.
Ballard 40-14 over Boone
Storm Lake held off Le Mars 36-28
Mason City edged Gilbert 16-14. Mohawks travel to take on Webster City on Friday.
Algona no trouble with Cherokee-Washington 42-2.
