Pocahontas County Engineers Close Road to Prevent Spread of Bird Flu

(Alpha Media – Brooke Bickford) Several roads are closed in Pocahontas County to prevent the spread of the highly contagious avian flu.

According to the Pocahontas Engineer Department, the location west of Palmer is being closed for biosecurity reasons. The location is straight east of an infected site in Buena Vista County

The road closed is C56 between 240th and 247th streets.

The effort is to protect a poultry farm there from becoming a victim of avian influenza.

So far there have been two cases in two counties of the highly contagious flu.

According to the engineering Department, the Pocahontas Board of Supervisors will be revisiting the issue each week.
