Postseason Wrestling Is Back On The Air Starting Saturday February 6th

The excitement of the high school wrestling postseason is back on the air waves starting February 6th. Alpha Media Sports coverage of the postseason for area teams starts with the 1A wrestling sectionals on 105-9 “The Beach” and “Sunny” 99.7. Coverage will begin around 11:50Am, with wrestling starting at noon. Wrestling coverage will then continue on Saturday Feb. 13th with the 1A District Tournaments and the 3A District tournament at Fort Dodge Senior High. The 3A Districts will air on 92.1 FM (all radio coverage will also be available on our website). Wrestling coverage will culminate with the 2021 Iowa State Wrestling Tournament Feb. 18th-20th on “Sunny” 99.7 FM.

On 105-9 “The Beach” Saturday Feb. 6th, Theresa and Tom Hildreth will have the call of the 1A Wrestling Sectionals at Ogden. Theresa is a longtime, well respected wrestling broadcaster who has covered wrestling at the State level on TV and radio. Tom is a former area wrestling coach, who is a member of the National Wrestling Hall Of Fame. He was inducted into that Hall Of Fame in 2018. Tom also is slated to be inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall Of Fame later in 2021. The Hildreths will also be the announce team for the State Wrestling Tournament Feb. 18th-20th.

The Ogden sectionals feature area teams such as South Central Calhoun, St. Edmond and East Sac County. Three ranked wrestlers from SC Calhoun will compete there including Blake Mcalister #2 at 170, Jordan Khommanyvong #7 at 138, and Ayden Toms #10 at 120. Wrestlers who advance from the Ogden sectional will compete in the District Tournament at AC/GC in Guthrie Center on Feb. 13th.

Manson NW Webster will be the host school for the 1A Sectionals on “Sunny” 99.7 on Saturday. Coverage will begin around 11:50 AM and wrestling will start at noon. The Legore Brothers, Carl and Darren will have the call of all the action. Carl has a radio background, having worked in the industry in this market for years in the past. Darren has a steep wrestling background, having followed the sport in the local area for years.

The Sectionals at Manson will feature area teams including Manson NW Webster, Eagle Grove, West Bend-Mallard, Pocahontas Area and West Hancock. Area ranked wrestlers competing in that tournament include Pocahontas Area’s Dane Johnson #2 at 285 , Manson’s Brodie Anderson #3 at 195, and Donavon Hanson of West Bend-Mallard #5 at 113. West Hancock is ranked #10 as a team in Class 1A. They feature four wrestlers ranked in the top 10, Matthew Francis #2 at 195, Freshman Kellen Smith #6 at 120, Bryer Subject #9 at 160 and Cole Kelly 37 at 220. Kelly also was All State in football starring at Running Back. Area wrestlers who advance from the Manson sectional will compete at the 1A Districts at  Sioux Central in Sioux Rapids on Feb. 13th.

February is the time “where the rubber meets the road” in High School wrestling. That gives a sport with a passionate and loyal fan following, even more excitement and a greater electricity surrounding it.
