Preseason Poll Brings High Expectations For SC Calhoun & Other Area Teams

With high school football set to kickoff Friday around the area, Radio Iowa has released their top 10 for each class. Multiple schools in the listening area appear in the preseason polls. South Central Calhoun opens the season at #2 in Class 1A. That is their highest preseason ranking in school history. The Titans had an undefeated regular season and won the District Title last year before falling on the road in a close game to eventual State Runner-Up Van Meter. The Titans open the 2020 slate this Friday Aug. 28th hosting Carroll-Kuemper. Join veteran area sportscasters Mark Williamson and Brian Peters on the call of that game, starting with the pregame show at 6:45 PM Friday on 105-9 “The Beach” and here on our website. Just ahead of South Central Calhoun in the 1A poll is OABCIG. They won the Class 2A State Title last year and dropped down to 1A coming into this season. QB Cooper Dejean is back for his Senior year after a monster season in 2019 that led to him committing to Iowa. He committed to the Hawkeyes over Iowa State, Nebraska, K-State, and Virginia.

Defending Class A State Champions West Hancock opens the season at #4 after an undefeated season in 2019. In Class 2A, Algona will open the season at #7. Algona is coming an undefeated regular season, a District Title and an appearance in the State Semifinals. In 2019, they fell in the Semi-Finals to eventual champions OABCIG. Algona Coach Andy Jacobson says that while his program lost some seniors from last year’s team, he feels good about the group he has.

Algona opens their season hosting Humboldt on Friday. In the 8 player class, Audubon is coming off a State Runner Up finish i n 2019 and opens 2020 at #3. Talk about strength of schedule, Fort Dodge is set to take on 3 teams in the Class 4A preseason top 10. The Dodgers host #3  Ankeny on Spet. 11th, they are at #10 Urbandale on Sept. 25th and on Oct. 9th they travel to defending State Champs #1 Dowling Catholic.
