Reynolds Restores Some Felon’s Voting Rights

IOWA GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS SIGNED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER RESTORING THE VOTING RIGHTS OF SOME WITH PRIOR CONVICTIONS.  REYNOLDS ORDER RESTORES VOTING RIGHTS TO ABOUT 40-THOUSAND PEOPLE, BUT WILL NOT APPLY TO THOSE CONVICTED OF MURDER, MANSLAUGHTER, OR SERIOUS SEX CRIMES.  REYNOLDS HAS BEEN AN ADVOCATE FOR AN AMENDMENT TO THE IOWA CONSTITUTION TO MAKE THIS CHANGE, BUT THE PROCESS STALLED IN THE IOWA LEGISLATURE.  REYNOLDS SPOKE TO RADIO IOWA ABOUT HER DECISION.

REYNOLDS SAID LAWMAKERS STILL NEED TO APPROVE THE AMENDMENT SO IT CAN BE VOTED ON BY IOWANS.
