Sentence Handed Down Following Fatal Shooting In September

The sentence has been handed down following the shooting death, of 18 year J’Lynn Beason. The shooting occurred in September of 2020. 19 year old Denharrio K. Lewil was given a 20 year sentence on Monday. He was originally charged with first degree murder and attempted murder.

Earlier this year, he was given a plea deal. He entered guilty please to voluntary manslaughter, reckless use of a firearm and carrying weapons. During court proceedings, Lewil admitted shooting at Beason’s brother D’ante Whitfield. The incident occurred on South 14th St., in Fort Dodge on Sept. 20th.

Beason was visiting her brother at the time and was hit with the shots Lewil admitted to firing. She died the following day, at a Des Moines area hospital from injuries suffered in the shooting.
