Spencer Man Arrested After Allegedly Hitting Two Police Vehicles and Attempting to Flee

A driver who hit two police cars and attempted to get away first by car then on foot from law enforcement, faces a long list of charges.

The Iowa State Patrol was reportedly responding to a deadly crash in Pocahontas County when the suspect’s vehicle hit both an Iowa State Patrol vehicle and a Laurens Police Department vehicle before they tried to get away.

The driver was caught on Highway 10 after the Pocahontas Police Department deployed stop sticks to stop the vehicle.

The driver allegedly revved their engine until the vehicle caught on fire and then attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

The man has been identified as 35 year old Ricky Paul Burnett of Spencer who faces a number of charges, including reckless driving and eluding. 

According to the report from the ISP, Troopers Davenport, Missman, and Curry are credited with doing an excellent job working alongside Laurens’ PD, Pocahontas PD, and Pocahontas Sheriff’s Office to get a dangerous driver off the road and into custody! Havelock Fire Department and Laurens Ambulance Service were on scene quickly to assist and to put out the fire.
