The South Central Calhoun boys basketball team have been on a tear winning their last 9 straight. The last time they lost was December 16th, think about that Santa Claus hadn’t came yet and we were in a different decade. SCC is sitting at 13-3 on the season they were 4-3 after their last loss back on Dec. 16th to a really good Southeast Valley team. The 9 game win streak can be attributed in large part to their increased offensive productivity. The Titans are scoring 76 points per game in the winning streak, as opposed to just 57 per in the 7 games prior. Senior Zane Neubaum is having an all state caliber season. He is averaging 25.5 PPG which is good for top 10 among the entire state. Neubaum had a game high 26 in Tuesday’s win over West Bend-Mallard, in this streak he has games of 30, 35, and 40. Juniors Cole Corey and Brennan Holder are averaging in double figures as well providing offensive balance. Holder is their leading rebounder at 6 per game , Corey is the leading assist man at a littler over 3 per. Senior Landon Schleisman is 2nd in steals and assists for South Central Calhoun. The Titans defensive prowess has been impressive that is exemplified by the fact that 5 players have 30 or more steals on the season. The streak in it’s own right is impressive but keeping it going will be even more impressive. The schedule is back loaded for SCC as their final 5 games of the regular season feature some high quality teams. The Titans host a Newell-Fonda team on Friday that is riding a 9 game win streak of their own, they also haven’t lost since Christmas. The Titans also will face 2 teams down the stretch have beaten them earlier in the season in Southeast Valley and East Sac County. Those losses were on the road and SCC will have both of those at home where they are 7-1 on the season. Regardless of whether the streak stays alive their is no doubt South Central Calhoun is playing their best basketball thus far in this 9 game hot streak. Their also is no doubt that Zane Neubaum is one of a handful of the preeminent scorers in the area and around the state of Iowa.
