St. Edmond Boys Fall In Playoffs, Girls In Action Tuesday Night

The St. Edmond Boys traveled to take on West Hancock on Monday Night in their playoff opener. At times, during the regular season St. Edmond was hurt by slow starts and offensive woes for stretches of games. That issue came into play on Monday night, as the Gaels started slow and trailed 9-0 early. They would claw their way back some, but offensive struggles in the 1st half were an issue. West Hancock led 13-7 but closed the half on an 11-4 run. That would give West Hancock a 24-11 halftime lead. The Gaels would get a spark from Guard Anthony Lacina in the 4th, as he hit three 3’s in the quarter. They would cut the lead down from as much as 20 in the 3rd to 10 in the 4th, but couldn’t get any closer. Lacina led St. Edmond with 11, all of them came in the 4th quarter. West Hancock got a combined 33 from Rylan and Cayson Barnes.  St. Edmond concludes their season with the loss.

The St. Edmond Girls will be in action on Tuesday Night in the playoffs. It will be a 2nd round showdown as St. Edmond travels to take on Newell-Fonda. Gaels got a win in their playoff opener in convincing fashion last week over Ankeny Christian. However, Newell-Fonda is a “different animal”. The Mustangs are the defending State Champs and they are ranked #2 in 1A. Their lone loss came on the road at #1 Bishop Garrigan in mid-December.  KC Meiners will have the call of the game, a 7 PM tip on your home for Gaels Basketball, “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website.
