St. Edmond Coach Matt Dillon Talks Bishop Garrigan Win, Improved Run Defense, & 5-2 Regular Season

Coach Matt Dillon has been a staple on the “Hy-Vee Fort Dodge Coaches Corner” Saturday Mornings on “Sunny” 99.7 since its inception fall of last year. He was there every week to visit with Rob Jones during the 2019 season when the Gaels struggled finishing 2-7. He’s been back this year each week as well and this year has been a “renaissance” for Gaels Football. In the regular season finale, St. Edmond cruised past Bishop Garrigan 62-14. It was the first win for St. Edmond in the series since 2014 and the first in Matt Dillon’s tenure. The Gaels offensive identity this season and much of their success has come due to the big play that was no exception on Friday. The Gaels scored 4 times on plays of 40+ yards. Defensively, St. Edmond has had trouble stopping the run they had given up over 300 yards rushing 4 times in 6 games. Their two losses were games where they gave up over 300 yards rushing. They were able to make some adjustments to their run defense and contained Bishop Garrigan’s run game despite giving up a ton of size upfront. Coach Dillon joined Rob Jones Saturday and the two discussed the Bishop Garrigan performance, the adjustments to the run defense and the 5-2 regular season for St. Edmond. The Entire Conversation Is Below. ( This interview was done prior to the playoff brackets being released. Since this interview it has been announced St. Edmond will host Madrid Friday Oct. 16th at Dodger Stadium in the 1st round.)
