St. Edmond Football Sees Thursday Night Game As Tremendous Opportunity

St. Edmond Football is out to a hot start not only being 2-0, but scoring 91 points in two games and having set a school record for single game passing yards. The Gaels have handled their 1st two opponents winning by a combined score of 91-24 in the first two weeks. St. Edmond has a unique opportunity as they have a rare Thursday Night affair with North Union at Dodger Stadium. Casey Meiners will have the call of the game on “Sunny” 99.7 Thursday starting with a 6:45 PM pregame and kickoff is set for 7 PM. Gaels Head Coach Matt Dillon says his squad views the Thursday Night game as a chance to be on full display.

Coach Dillon credits much of their early season to their “big play” offense. As the Gaels hit on multiple touchdown passes of 70+ yards in Week 2 and had long TD runs with the ground game in week 1.

St. Edmond’s athletic dept. has made the decision to make the North Union game, Senior Night. That decision presumably is due to the covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of future games as a result of it. The Gaels have 11 seniors and a major portion of their production both offensively and defensively comes from that group. However, Coach Dillon says that the development and growth of his seniors is about more than football.
