State Softball Tourney : Fort Dodge Looks To Make Program History, Ogden Advances, Two Area Teams Eliminated
Wednesday Fort Dodge Softball will look to advance to the State Title game for the 1st time in program history. The #1 Dodgers take on 5 seed Ankeny Centennial at 12:30 in the State Semifinals in Class 5A. Join Rob Jones and Brian Peters as they bring you every pitch of that game on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website starting with the pregame show at 12:20 PM. The Dodgers are in the Semifinals for the 2nd time under Coach Andi Adams, with the first appearance coming in 2006. They advanced after downing Bettendorf 7-0 Monday. Ankeny Centennial advanced to the Semifinals by beating Waukee 5-2 on Monday. The winner will meet the winner of Cedar Rapids- Kennedy and Muscatine in the finals Thursday at 5 PM.
Day two of the 2020 Iowa State Softball Tournament Tuesday here in Fort Dodge was an action packed day. There were 3 teams from North Central Iowa in action, 1 advanced to the Semifinals and the other two were eliminated concluding their seasons. In Class 2A Tuesday Ogden was a winner over Mt. Ayr 5-2. Mt. Ayr scored twice in the 1st to take an early lead. Ogden scored one in both the 1st and 3rd innings and the game was tied 2-2. The Bulldogs would then score 3 in the 4th to take the lead. Ogden allowed just one hit in the game.
In Class 3A Quartfinal Action Algona fell 3-1 to Williamsburg. Bulldogs managed just one hit off Williamburg Freshman Payton Driscoll. That one hit was a solo homer in the 6th by Algona Senior Kam Etherington. She ended her career in an Algona uniform Tuesday with the loss after leading the program to its first two State Tournament appearances in school history.
Class 1A’s #2 seed Newell-Fonda fell to 7 seed Lisbon 3-0 on in the nightcap Tuesday. The game was a 1-0 pitchers duel until the 7th when Lisbon tacked on two insurance runs. Newell-Fonda ends their season at 18-3. They will graduate just two Seniors and this year marked the 12th State Tournament bid in 16 years for their program.
