Teenagers Crash After Leading Des Moines Police On Chase Monday

A police chase that started in Des Moines Monday morning ended in a crash. The Iowa State Patrol says, that the chase started on I-80 East of Des Moines, just before 7:30 AM Monday. An Iowa DOT Officer located a vehicle that had been reported stolen in the Waverly area.

The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver led police on a pursuit on I-80 and then South on Hwy 65. The State Patrol discontinued the pursuit due to heavy traffic and safety concerns.

Then around 7:45 AM, officers responded to call of a rollover crash at the Hwy 5 exit. The State Patrol says the driver lost control trying to take the exit.  The car had three teenage boys in it, a 15 year old driver and two 16 years old passengers.

This is the second instance in less than a week, in which teenagers have led police on a chase in the Des Moines area.
