Ten Unbeaten Football Teams Remain In Listening Area & Week 3 AP Rankings
Ten teams from the listening area remain unbeaten after two weeks of the season. Fort Dodge, St. Edmond, SC Calhoun, SE Valley, Pocahontas Area, Humboldt, Emmetsburg, Webster City, Newell-Fonda and South Hamilton all still have unblemished records.
The AP Rankings for week 3 are out they feature some familiar names and some new appearances. In Class 4A, Fort Dodge makes their debut in the rankings this year as they are tied for 10th. The Dodgers have a statement game Friday at Dodger Stadium against #8 Ankeny. Dodger RB “Downtown” Dayson Clayton has been beyond tremendous, 679 rushing yards in 2 games with 9 rushing TD’s and 2 TD catches. Clayton leads all of Iowa in rushing yards and is tied for 2nd in rushing TD’s. He eclipsed the 3,000 yard mark in the week 2 win vs Sioux City East and is currently 4th on the all time school rushing list. He needs 117 yards to pass former Dodger RB Zach Mason for 3rd all time and 418 to pass his brother Jontel for 2nd all time. Friday is a statement game for Fort Dodge after the 2-0 start can they knock off an Ankeny squad that’s not only loaded with talent but considered a State Title contender? In Class 3A, Dallas Center Grimes remains number 1 and Webster City has moved to 8th after dismantling Carroll 55-0 last week. Humboldt is in the “others receiving votes” category after a 2-0 start. Coach Derrick Elman has his guys buying in and believing after they shocked folks in football circles around the area by knocking off Algona on the road in week 1. They followed that with a 28-7 win over Storm Lake. Humboldt has Boone this week and Webster City next week which could be a match up of two unbeaten ranked teams. In Class 2A, Greene County is receiving votes after being ranked last week, the Rams after coming off a home loss to SC Calhoun in week 2.
In Class 1A, South Central Calhoun remains ranked #2 after an impressive 34-7 road win at Greene County. The Titans host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Friday starting with a 6:45 pregame join Mark Williamson and Brian Peters on 105-9 “The Beach” and here on our website for the call of the game. Emmetsburg is sitting at number 7 after they won a nail biter over Algona last week. Algona trailed by 7 and was stopped at the goal line late giving Emmetsburg the win. South Hamilton is 2-0 and have handled their first two opponents this season, they are receiving votes in this week’s polls.
In Class A, West Hancock defending state champs West Hancock is sitting at 10th with a record of 1-1. St. Edmond is in the “others receiving votes category” after winning their 1st two games by a combined score of 91-24. The Gaels play a rare Thursday Night game in week 3 at Dodger Stadium vs North Union. It’s Senior Night for St. Edmond and you can hear that game on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website.
In 8 player class, Audubon is rolling right along they are 2-0 and ranked #2 this week. Newell_Fonda is sitting in the 6 spot and Coon Rapids-Bayard is receiving votes.
