A propane leak was found after a train derailment in Ames late last week. 27 Union Pacific rail cars derailed on Thursday afternoon, causing the leak.
The derailment and leak prompted a shutdown of multiple crossings near Ames for several hours. A hazmat crew was called out to the site to stop the leak.
The Ames Fire Dept., said that that there was no ongoing threat after the leak was dealt with, no evacuations were ordered. The Ames Fire Dept., Story County EMA, Des Moines Hazmat and the Iowa DNR all responded to the derailment site.
