Tuesday Night Vigil In Fort Dodge : Washington Says “Don’t Fight Hate With Hate”

The Tuesday Night candlelight vigil in Fort Dodge featured over a dozen speakers as a few hundred people gathered together to acknowledge the death of George Floyd and promote unity. The event was organized by The Fort Dodge City Council’s Lydia Schuur and Sherry Washington of The Fort Dodge NAACP. Washington said afterwards, she felt this was something the community needed.

Rev. Rob Johnson of Second Baptist Church was among the speakers at the event and he says that change has to happen person by person.

The Reverend went on to say now is a crucial time around the country but Fort Dodge is making strides.

Sherry Washington had heart felt words for those rioting around the country, she says “Don’t Fight Hate With Hate”.

 

Representatives from the city, law enforcement, local churches, educational system and community leaders all spoke at the event.
