Two Area HS Boys Teams Make Season Debuts Monday , One Girls Team Looks To Keep Momentum
Monday Night two area boys teams will open their seasons on your radio and one area girls team will look to build off a dominant opening performance last week. On 105-9 “The Beach”, South Central Calhoun will be in action hosting Audubon. The Titan Girls are looking to continue the momentum after they routed Storm Lake 92-22 last week in their opener. South Central Calhoun’s girls are ranked #4 in class 2A coming into tonight. Coach Brady Dicks debuted at the helm of the SCC girls program last week, employing an uptempo pressing style that is a bit of a change from last year’s style of play. The boys for South Central Calhoun will debut Monday Night. The Titans are coming off a 19-5 last year that saw them make a Semi-State appearance before being knocked out by West Sioux. This year’s team returns some key pieces from last year including Brennan Holder last year’s 2nd leading scorer at 12 per game and leading rebounder at 6.5 per. They also return Cole Corey who averaged 11 point per and led them in assists at 3 per game. The Titans will have to replace last year’s leading scorer and one of Iowa’s top scorers Zane Neubaum who averaged 25 points per game, also gone is Landon Schliesman who averaged 10 per game. People around the Titan program do expect increased scoring production from 6 ft 5 Forward Josh Dietrich who was their 2nd leading rebounder last season. Join Brian Peters for the call of the action tonight with the girls game scheduled to tip at 6:30 PM.
Monday Night will mark the season opener for the St. Edmond boys as well. It will be a boys only game as St. Edmond hosts Bishop Garrigan. The Gaels will take the floor under the direction of veteran coach Adolph Kochendorfer back for his 28th season at St. Edmond. The Gaels own version of “Coach K” is a well respected coach in the area who’s reputation has been built on getting the most of his personnel. The Gaels finished 8-14 last season but were 4-2 in their final 6 games. Last season, St. Edmond opened and closed the season with lopsided losses to Bishop Garrigan who were the State Runner Ups last season in Class 1A. The Gaels will be replacing a few key pieces from last year including leading scorer Connor Bockoven. St. Edmond does bring back 2 of last year’s top 4 scorers Drew Schaeffer and Hayden Mayer who also was the team’s 2nd leading rebounder last season. The Gaels will look to contain Bishop Garrigan’s returning All State performer 6ft 9 post Angelo Winkel. He averaged a double-double last season and has signed with D-2 Augustana University in South Dakota. The game tonight is slated for a 7 PM tip, join KC Meiners on the call of the action on “Snowy” 99.7 .
