Two Area Softball Teams Earn #1 Seed In Their Classes

The Bracket is out for the 2021 State Softball Tournament. Fort Dodge is the #1 seed in 5A with a record of 35-4 (all four losses to ranked opponents) . The Dodgers spent the last few weeks ranked 2nd, but drew the top seed when top ranked Muscatine was upset in the Regional Finals. Dodgers will take on 8 seed, Betterndorff in a rematch of last year’s State Quarterfinals. That game is Tuesday the 20th at 7 PM. With a win, Fort Dodge would advance to the State Semifinals on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM. The Dodgers would take on the winner of Waukee and Cedar Rapids-Kennedy.
The other Quarterfinals include the 2 seed Pleasant Valley vs 7 seed SE Polk and #3 Iowa City High vs #6 Akeny Centennial.
The Championship game for 5A is set for Friday July 23rd at 7:30 PM. You can hear every Fort Dodge game from the State Tournament on 99.7 FM and here on our website. Rob Jones and Brian Peters will have the call.
In Class 1A, Newell-Fonda is the top seed they come in 35-4 with two of those losses at Iowa’s top regular season tournament, the Fort Dodge Invitational. The Mustangs have North Butler in the Quarterfinals on Monday at 11AM. With a win, Newell-Fonda would advance to play the winner of SE Warren and Sigourney on Wednesday at 11AM. The 1A State Title Game is Thursday the 22nd at 5 PM.
Next week will mark the 51st anniversary of the Iowa State Softball Tournament being held in Fort Dodge.
