Vote to Fund Webster County Jail on November 7th Ballot

We are 6 weeks away from election day where voters will choose new city council members, school board members and in Webster County, whether or not we need a new jail.

On November 7th Webster County voters will head to the polls and make the choice to vote for or against a bond referendum that would fund a new jail.

According to Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener, the issue is overcrowding, outdated building design and safety at the current jail that was built over 40 years ago:

“Things in 82’ were much simpler than they are now,” he said.“

He said over the past 5 years transferring and housing inmates charged with felony crimes has cost taxpayers 1.4 million dollars.

“I know the supervisors see the issue,” he said. “This is where we’re at, we are at that crossroads.”

Samuels Group out of Wisconsin has developed a plan for a new jail with a price tag of around $45-million dollars to be built on the outskirts of town. To find out more about the plans for a new jail and what it could cost you go to WebsterCountyVote.com.
