Webster County Officials Discuss Potential for New Jail

A need for a new jail in Webster County was the topic of discussion during a meeting between the city of
Fort Dodge, the Webster County Board of Supervisors, Webster County Sherriff Luke Fleener, architects
and the public Wednesday at 4pm.
A proposed new facility would house both county and city services in the same building.
According to Sherriff Fleener the move shows that law enforcement are truly dedicated to working as a team.
The current facility is 40 years old and there are some areas that could be streamlined and add more
beds, including beds that are for persons with special needs.
Right now, the Webster County jail is at capacity and has to pay other county jails to house their inmates.
The cost in 2021 alone was nearly a quarter of a million dollars.
The cost of a new jail was not discussed during the meeting. Simply the need of a better facility.
The next step is to form the solution that works then put together numbers and ultimately the cost to
tax payers.
