Week 6 of the season and week 2 in district play for area high school football teams has concluded and was one of disappointment for the 2 teams that call Fort Dodge home. Both St. Edmond and Fort Dodge fell in week 6. For St. Edmond it was their 4th loss of the season and came in their homecoming game. Sioux Central beat the Gaels 37-18 on Friday night to give St. Edmond their 3rd consecutive loss and put them at 0-2 in district play. Sioux Central RB Jayden Harder had a big game on the ground with 233 rushing yards on 45 carries and 4 TD’s. Sioux Central would total over 300 yards rushing. However, their were several positives to take away on the Gaels side of things. QB Drew Schaefer would return from injury for St. Edmond in a big way. He would have the 2nd best passing game in program history going 14 of 25 for 242 yards and a TD. Kase Baker would score twice in the game, catching a  pass to score and running for another for the Gaels. Parker Oswald would catch 5 of the Schaefer completed passes and get 88 receiving yards on the night. While it wasn’t the outcome coach Matt Dillon wanted he praised his teams effort level in the loss.

The Fort Dodge Dodgers fell to Des Moines Roosevelt 16-14 at Drake University Stadium. The Dodgers would strike 1st, scoring on a 1 yard  Asle Thorson TD run. That score would come after Nick Bice made a highlight catch to set the Dodgers up 1st and goal at the Roosevelt 1. Roosevelt would answer with a TD run by RB Jaden Koger. The Dodgers would give up a safety after having an issue on the snap and Roosevelt would take a 9-7 halftime lead. The 1st time the Dodgers have trailed at the half all season. The Dodgers would score 1st in the 2nd half on a Asle Thorson TD pass of 15 yards to Brycen Bell. Then Roosevelt would retake the lead at 16-14 on a 1 yard TD run by all purpose standout Antonio Alzheimer. The Dodgers would have their chances in the game but ultimately they couldn’t get over the unusually high amount of turnovers by their offense. The Dodgers would turn it over 5 times, 4 interceptions and a lost fumble. The Defense would play “lights out” all game long to keep the Dodgers in the game. The defense even created 3 Roosevelt turnovers the last of which was an interception by LB Austin Lee that set up the Dodgers in Roosevelt territory in the 4th quarter. The Dodgers would throw an interception of their own late in the game thus sealing the game. Fort Dodge now is 4-2 on the year and has lost their 1st 2 district games of the year. However, the 2 losses come by a combined 5 points to 2 top 10 ranked opponents. dodger head man Matt Miller says his message though to his guys is their is a lot of football left to play.

The team that is covered weekly on 105.9 FM “The Beach” South Central Calhoun they wouldn’t leave disappointed. They improve to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in district with a 21-6 win over South Hamilton. Blake Mcalister would gain 158 rushing yards for the Titans. South Central Calhoun would get close to 300 rushing yards from Mcalister, Landon Schliesman who would add 69 yards and Keegan Meyers who had 67 yards on the ground. The Titans defense has been stellar all season giving up less than 5 points per game. South Central Calhoun remains ranked in the top 10 in the state. Their is a lot of talk around the state about the Titans as a threat to make a deep run in the playoffs. Coach Bryan Case continues to lead his guys and coach to the “championship standard” as he has said there are a few small things to clean up. We will see if the Titans can be remembered by making a run toward the state title. They take the show on the road to face Madrid this week.
