Week 8 Area High School Football Preview

The 2019 regular season is starting to wind down and that means that the importance of each game increases and intensifies. Different teams come into week 8 with different perspectives and goals on the table. The area has 1 team that could clinch a district title with a win in week 8, one team on the playoff “bubble” needing to win out to get a wildcard spot, and a couple teams just fighting to finish on a high note by getting back in the win column. Next week is the regular season finale for teams around Iowa and the playoffs will begin November 1st. Below is a preview of each of the games on the Alpha Media family of stations. 105.9 “The Beach” South Central Calhoun hosts Eagle Grove- Join veteran area sportscasters Mark Williamson and Brian Peters on the call as the unbeaten Titans look to clinch the district title with a win. The  formula for success  for South Central Calhoun this season has been the tried and true one of a strong run game and a punishing defense. The Titan defense is allowing less than 5 points per game. The titans last couple of games they have gotten off to a slow start but gotten stronger as the game went on. Coach Bryan Case says that in the last couple weeks of the regular season he is looking for his team to start putting together complete game type efforts.

“Sunny” 99.7  St. Edmond at Alta-Aurelia- The Gaels are trying to find the win column again as they have dropped their last 4 in a row. St. Edmond has been ultra competitive in that 4 game stretch but just unable to get over the hump. Last week the Gaels were beaten by Ridge View 21-14. Alta-Aurelia is 4-3 on the season coming off a 21-7 loss last week to IKM-Manning.

92.1 “92 Rock” Fort Dodge hosts Sioux City West- The Dodgers are back home after two straight road trips. The Dodgers are coming off 3 straight losses and trying to put an end to the losing skid. Fort Dodge sits at 4-3 on the year and is on the “bubble” for the playoffs. They almost have to win out in the regular season to have a shot at a wildcard playoff selection. Coach Matt Miller says his guys are well aware that for them the playoffs start early.

“Mix” 94.5 The Central Iowa Area Showcase Game this week features Manson NW Webster at Ridge View. Manson NW Webster has been reeling having lost their last 6 in a row and is coming off a loss to Sioux Central 8-0 last week. They look to get back on track and back in the win column as they take on Ridge View. Ridge View is 1-6 on the year coming off their 1st win of the season last week 21-14 over St. Edmond
