Week 8 Area High School Football Review
Week number 8 was one that saw a mixed bag of results for area teams. One team continued their dominance and kept their perfect record in tact clinching a share of the district title. Another team kept its hopes for a postseason bid alive and has set itself up for a week 9 game with playoff implications. Meanwhile, a local squad is reeling after 5 straight losses and another area team got back in the win column after 6 straight losses.
In a game heard on 92.1 the Fort Dodge Dodgers rolled to a 57-0 victory over Sioux City West. The Dodgers would jump out to a commanding lead 38-0 in the first quarter and never look back. QB Asle Thorson would account for 5 total TD’s in the game, 3 in the air and 2 on the ground. The Dodger defense would force a multitude of turnovers in the game, DB Jerry Chada with 2 interceptions. The Dodgers keep their playoff hopes a live and will host Marshalltown in week 9 in a game that could well determine the Dodgers postseason fate. In the Fort Dodge win over Sioux City West, Coach Matt Miller tied the record for all time wins in Fort Dodge football history. Coach Miller said afterwards that the players and assistant coaches deserve the credit for the accomplishment.
Over on “sunny” 99.7 The St. Edmond Gaels fell for the 5th straight week with a 33-7 loss to Alta-Aurelia. St. Edmond would get 84 rushing yards from RB Sean Flattery. The Gaels would have some 1st half miscues that would lead to Alta-Aurelia scores. Gaels coach Matt Dillon said his team just couldn’t get over the slow start.
The South Central Calhoun Titans continued their dominance with a 69-0 win over Eagle Grove. The Titans with the win clinched a share of the district title and improved their record t 8-0 on the year. Titan QB Cole Corey with 3 total TD’s and Landon Schliesman would add 2 rushing TD’s for the Titans. South Central Calhoun can win the district title outright with a win over Pocahontas on Friday Oct. 25th. Every South Central Calhoun game airs on 105.9 “The Beach”.
Manson Northwest Webster broke their 6 game losing skid with a win in “The Central Iowa Area Showcase Game” on “Mix” 94.5 FM. Manson NW Webster would get a pair of rushing TD’s from QB Austin Anliker and go on to beat Ridge View 29-12.
