New Hockey Arena Project At Merle Hay Mall In Des Moines

As mall around the country become more of a thing of the past, those sites are being re-imagined and repurposed. Here in Fort Dodge, a project is underway to do that at Cross Roads Mall. The Merle Hay Mall may also be moving in that direction. As there are plans to construct a new hockey arena there.

That’s Liz Holland, CEO of Merle Hay Investors. Her group is looking to tear down part of the mall and build the new arena. Holland says the new arena would not only house the Des Moines Buccaneers Hockey Team but would also serve multiple purposes.

Holland says the new arena would be a state of the art facility.

The new arena is expected to bolster job creation and economic impact.

Holland says the plan is to have the new arena completed in fall of 2022.
