For the 6th time in 10 years , the South Central Calhoun Titans find themselves in the 2nd round of the football playoffs. The Titans have an opportunity to punch their ticket to the UNI dome and earn a spot in the state semifinals Friday night. South Central Calhoun has been dominant all year long allowing just 56 points total in 10 games, on their way to an unbeaten season. Their 2nd round opponent Van Meter has been equally as dominant as they are also undefeated and are ranked #1 in class 1A. It is a game that is drawing interest from all across the state of Iowa and something has to give between these two heavyweight programs. South Central Calhoun is coming of a 56-22 in the 1st round vs Mt. Ayr and Van Meter defeated their 1st round opponent Pella Christian 38-12. Titans coach Bryan Case says that Van Meter is #1 for good reason.

The two teams have shown similar dominance South Central Calhoun’s closest game was a 21-6 win over South Hamilton. Van Meter’s tightest game was a 20 point win over Panorama. The similarities don’t end their either, they both are built on strong running games and stronger defenses. The Titans have given up a total of 56 points in 10 games good for an average of 5.6 points per, and Van meter has given up just 51 all year good for an average of 5.1 points per. Coach Case says that stopping the run will be key for his defense tonight.

Coach Case went onto to talk about the Titans having fallen short in this same scenario each of their last 6 chances in this same spot. He says that this week in practice the message has been about overcoming and getting over the hump.
