Webster County Woman To Serve Federal Time After Defrauding Elderly Veteran
A Webster County woman who defrauded an elderly and disabled veteran out of over $120,000 has been sentenced to prison. 4o year old Fort Dodge resident, Janice Kay Jurgensen was sentenced after pleading guilty to wire fraud in December.
Court documents, say Jugrensen admitted to stealing the life savings of a family member who was in a nursing home. The victim was suffering from mental and physical disabilities due to dementia and a severe stroke.
In 2018 Jurgensen had the victim sign over power of attorney rights to her. The form stated Jurgensen was not entitled to any financial compensation. However, she used the victim’s debit card to make various purchases for her self. Eventually, the victim’s life savings was drained and he was unable to pay for his nursing home care.
Jurgensen has been sentenced to two years in prison.
