Area HS Hoop Report: Gaels Swept At Home, Dodgers With Major Road Test, Titans Look To Keep Momentum

Thursday Night saw the St. Edmond Gaels in action and on display as the only game in town. Offensive woes plagued both the St. Edmond Girls and Boys teams against solid South Hamilton clubs. In the girls game, St. Edmond fell 36-27. Gaels scored just 2 points in the 1st quarter and turned it over 25 times on the night. Their solid defensive performance keep them in the game as they trailed by just 4 after the 3rd. South Hamilton would outscore them 12-7 in the 4th to take the win.

The St. Edmond Boys fell 61-44 to South Hamilton. It was a combination of shooting woes for St. Ed’s and hot shooting for South Hamilton. The Hawks shot 6 of 12 from downtown in the game and even better than that from inside the arc. Gaels shot just 28% on the night. Quinton Mccarville was the lone Gael in double figures with 11. South Hamilton’s Carter Hewitt had a game high 16. St. Edmond’s Girls and Boys are back in action Friday at Humboldt. The Fort Dodge Dodgers will have a stiff road test on Friday night as they travel to take on Ankeny. Dodger Girls coming off an emotional win in an OT thriller Tuesday over rival Mason City. It was the first win for Fort Dodge in the series since 2008. Tonight they take on a quality Ankeny team who blew out that same Mason City team earlier this month. The Dodger Boys are 0-2 looking for their 1st win and it’ll be the 1st road trip of the year for them. They get a shot at the champs Friday Night, as they take on an Ankeny High team that won the State Title this past season. Much of that personnel is going including all stater Braxton Bayless who signed to play at Indian Hills Community College. The Dodgers look to bounce back from a competitive loss to Mason City. South Central Calhoun’s girls put their undefeated streak on the line as they travel to take on Emmetsburg. Titan Girls have started strong under 1st year Head Coach Brady Dicks and are ranked in the top 5. They look to build on that Friday and have an eye on going into Christmas break unbeaten, a win Friday and then another one on the 22nd would put them there. The Titan Boys looked to continue their momentum. They have won four straight after falling to South Hamilton on December 1st. That loss seemed to have refocused the Titans as they have responded well. Coach Clive Clark will take his traditional 2-3 zone defense on the road as his squad looks to stay hot.
