Area Playoff Report: Late Score Lifts SC Calhoun, Fort Dodge Falls By A TD & Area Scores
You might call playoff football the “season within a season” where it’s about who’s better on a particular night and what team rises to the occasion in those 4 quarters.
On 105.9 “The Beach” South Central Calhoun was able to edge Dike New Hartford in a dogfight of a game. The game would be “punch and counter punch” all night and was knotted up at 22-22 when the Titans made this play.
Mark Williamson on the call of the Brennan Holder TD run that put SCC up for good, it was one of his 2 TD’s on the night. Blake Mcalister ran for 129 yards and a TD. Titans run defense was spectacular limiting Dike New Hartford’s standout RB Drew Larson to 52 rushing yards on 18 carries. Titans will advance to the 3rd round they await the announcement of their next opponent.
The Fort Dodge Dodgers fell to Waterloo West on the road 24-17. The Wahawks srtuck first and led 3-0 after an early FG, Fort Dodge answered with a 73 yard TD strike from Carson Peterson to Javion Jondle. Dodgers would add a 35 FG by Gavin Schillerstrom and lead 10-3 at the half. Waterloo West opened the 2nd half with a 14 play 65 yard TD drive in 7:39 and tied it at 10-10. They would get a 50 yard TD pass from Carter Schulte to Nate Ewell on a screen play and led 17-10 after 3. They would add a 64 yard TD pass to Tay Norman to go up 24-10. The Dodgers responded with a 54 yard TD pass from Carson Peterson to Tyler Schreier to cut it to 7 at 24-17. The Dodgers would put together a long drive late that started at their own 9 and had a TD called back on a holding penalty. The drive would stall on a turnover on downs after getting in the redzone. On 4th down they threw a pass towards Javion Jindle there was some contact and coach Nik Moser wanted a pass interference call but didn’t get it. The Dodgers end the season at 3-5 in Nik Moser’s 1st season at the helm. Dayson Clayton finishes his career with over 150 rushing yards in his final game and over 3,000 rushing yards in his career. Sam Daniel finishes his career as the Dodgers career interception leader with 11 and single season record holder with 8 this year.

Southeast Valley was impressive in their playoff opener downing Belmond-Klemme 50-13. Jags Coach QB Kolson Kruse had 146 rushing yards and three TD’s. He continues to value the ball as well as he only has 1 interception all year. RB Lathe Muench had two rushing TD’s and Kaleb Scott took a jet sweep 74 yards to the house. Inside Linebackers Justin Loseke and Parker Garcia led the defense with 14 tackles each. Jags Coach Mike Swieter says his team was dialed in from the start.
Webster City a winner 41-29 over Mason City. Chase Rattenborg had four total touchdowns, rushing for 126 yards. Webster City rushed for 300 in the game.
Humboldt dropped a heartbreaker 42-35 at Spencer despite an inspired performance by QB Caden “Mad Dog” Matson with over 300 total yards and 5 total TD’s.
Newell-Fonda blanked Kingsley Pierson 20-0. Mustangs defense allowed just 2 first downs and 38 total yards of offense.
Greene County with a shutout win 24-0 over Clarinda. It is the 6th straight for Greene County and their 2nd win this season over Clarinda.
South Hamilton cruised past South Hardin 42-12
Algona fell to Estherville Lincoln Central 36-20
Emmetsburg rolled Carroll-Kuemper 42-14. QB Ben Dunlap with 2 TD’s through the air and one on the ground. Colby Weir with a TD run and a TD catch in the game.
Audubon cruised past East Mills 40-7
Harris Lake Park knocked previously unbeaten Coon Rapids Bayard 55-32.
