Area Softball/Baseball Report: Doster Breaks Dodger Home Run Record, FD Baseball Gets Split, Gael Softball Drops Heart Breaker, SE Baseball Falls, Pocahontas Gets Win At Principal Park
Fort Dodge Softball cruised to a double header sweep at Ames. Dodgers took both games by mercy rule, winning the opener 10-0 and game two, 16-0. Catcher TK Doster rewrote history, as she homered to become the program’s all time leader in career in home runs. Jalen Adams cruised to the game one win in the circle, allowing just two hits while striking out 8. 8th grader, Mariah Myers had a grand slam homer in game two. Her classmate Lucy Porter got the shutout win in the circle, she now has over 10 wins on the season. The Dodgers have won 22 of their last 23.
Ina game heard on “Sunny” 99.7 and yourfortdodge.com , St. Edmond Softball dropped a heart breaker 2-1 to Hampton-Dumont-Cal. It was just the 3rd loss in the last 17 games for St. Edmond. The Gaels struck out 1st, scoring in the 1st on a Kacey Kruthoff RBI single. Hampton-Dumont-Cal answered with 2 in the 3rd to take the lead. Pitching was on display, as Avery Hanson went the distance for the win. She scattered 6 hits, allowed one run and struck out 9. For St. Edmond, Ella Vratny took the hard luck loss. She went 4 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, she struck out five. Kaili Henning had a solid two way performance. She worked three scoreless in the circle and struck out 7, and had two hits at the plate. Kacey Kruthoff had two hits for St. Edmond. Gaels are now 15-6 on the season.
Fort Dodge Baseball split their road double header at Ames. Dodgers dropped game one, but took game two with no problem winning 9-0. Jace Ulrich had five hits, including a home run and drove in five in the twin bill. Eli Elsbecker drove in three, Alex Underwood got the win on the hill. St. Edmond Baseball fell 6-0 to Hampton-Dumont-Cal. The game was caleld in the 6th due to rain. Cael Kolacia made his 1st start on the hill since coming back from injury. He went 4 innings and struck out 6. The Gaels came in hitting over .300 as a team on the season, but were held in check. Hampton-Dumont-Cal pounded out 11 hits.
Pocahontas Area downed Southeast Valley 9-0 Monday, at Principal Park in Des Moines. Pocahontas Area put up five in the 2nd, and three in the 6th. Gavin Ehn got the win with a complete game shutout, he allowed 3 hits and struckout 10.
