A would be customer turned into an impromptu hero, when he stepped in and stopped a robbery in progress at a store in Jasper County. Police responded to a call of a robbery in progress at the Casey’s location in Colfax on Tuesday afternoon.
Store employees hid in an office and called police while an armed gunman was robbing the store. A customer named Brice Gathercole entered the store and saw the gunman behind the counter robbing the store.
Gathercole began conversing with the robber, as police arrived and surrounded the building. The suspect who has been identified as Danny Stephens pointed the gun at Gathercole, who was able to disarm the suspect. Gathercole then took the gun outside and police came in and made the arrest.
Stevens was taken into custody and booked in the Jasper County Jail.
