Des Moines City Council Meeting Disrupted By Protesters For 3rd Straight Week

For the 3rd straight week, the Des Moines City Council meeting was interrupted by protesters. The council had voted a few weeks ago to not allow public verbal comments on agenda items.

Some of those items dealt with law enforcement issues, which is where the point of contention was for protesters. As protests began to disrupt the meeting, Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie ordered one protester to leave. That protester refused to leave and arrests commenced after that.

A total of four people were arrested, 24 year old Paden Shumaker of Des Moines, 47 year old Kathleen Menke of Johnston, 42 year old Jacob Grobe of Des Moines, and an unidentified juvenile. All four were arrested for either criminal trespass or interference with official acts.
